The WWE Hardcore Championship is the third-tier championship title in WWE The E-Fed. The championship was originally Smackdown exclusive for only a short time before being merged with the Cruiserweight Championship and rendered inactive. The championship was reactivated as a RAW exclusive championship in 2008 before being made interbrand in 2011. The title made a return in 2014 after Raw and Smackdown merged together. The first champion was Daniel Puder who won a Championship Scramble to become the inaugural champion. The championship was reactivated by New Jack at Unforgiven on September 22, 2008 after winning but disowning the European Championship and claiming it the Hardcore Championship. The final champion was Kevin Thorn who was in his first reign, after defeating Tyler Chandler on Superstars on February 17, 2011. The title would stay deactivated until September 12, 2014. The current Hardcore Champion is Samuel Shaw who is in his record breaking sixth reign. Shaw won a championship scramble match at Invasion (2016). Shaw holds record for most reigns with six. Jey Uso, Bad News Barrett, The Bunny, Sami Callihan, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, Tyson Kidd, Stardust, Cesaro, Shelton Benjamin and Bram hold the shortest reign with under 1 day. New Jack holds the record for longest reign (as an individual) with 231 days. Becky Lynch made history by becoming the first diva to ever hold the Hardcore Championship.
