NXT Takeover: New Orleans

NXT Takeover: New Orleans is a professional wrestling event produced by WWE, featuring their developmental branch WWE NXT, that will take place on March 18, 2017 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

It is a special episode of WWE NXT and the fifth live professional wrestling event streamed online via the WWE Network. It was the first live special to take place in the Louisiana area and the second to take place outside of Full Sail University.

BackgroundEdit

NXT Takeover: New Orleans featured professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines that played out on the WWE NXT television program. Wrestlers portrayed faces (heroes) or heels (villains) as they followed a series of events that built tension and culminated in a match or a series of matches.

On the March 4, 2017 episode of NXT, William Regal revealed the next Takeover live special and that it would take place on March 18, 2017 before revealing that due to the injury suffered by Zack Ryder that Mason Wolfe would be defending the NXT Championship against Ashton Monroe (formerly Splash Anderson) in a highly anticipated rematch from NXT Takeover: London. He also revealed that Alexa Bliss would defend her NXT Women's Championship in a Triple Threat match against Saška Milanović and Sunshine before also revealing that Rhino would face Borislav Dragovic in a singles match. A few days later it was revealed that Takeover would take place in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Superdome. That same day it was revealed that The Outlaws (Alex Blade & Shaw) would defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against the Völsung Death Squad (Tommy End & Braun Strowman) while Daizee Haze, Evie, Rebel and Liv Morgan would all compete in a Fatal Four Way match to determine the new number one contender for the NXT Women's Championship.
